Le Moulin à Couleurs continues the activity of Ets Boizet, founded in 1866. 7 people work there. It practices the rare activity of making natural pigments using natural earth, in particular sienna from the Ardennes. The company operates a quarry a few kilometres from its premises.

The raw materials (Ardennes sienna, Burgundy ochre, German black, Madras red iron oxide) are transformed and mixed to obtain a multitude of tints. The company is the last remaining factory making coloured earth in France. There are 3 in Europe: Le Moulin à Couleurs, a company in Verona and another in Cyprus.

 

Its customer base is comprised 90% of companies and 10% of private customers. 10% of its turnover is made from export, mainly in the European Union. It sells its colours through a network of sellers, through distance selling and orders.

 

The sold colours are used in a number of industries and often by prestigious customers: cosmetics, paints (building and artistic), fish bait, and restoration of heritage. The latter includes the following sites:
