From 1838 onwards, they turned to wool processing and the production of bedding, becoming mattress and bed makers. Their expertise has been preserved and developed down through the generations.Today, Literie Brissay-Châtre continues to specialise in the production of mattresses, bedsteads, beds and bedding accessories such as duvets. Its products are all handmade to measure, from natural materials such as wool, horsehair, latex, solid wood, feathers and down. The company has expertise which enables it, for example, to make mattresses according to five different techniques. For its production, the company uses specific machines, including cards dating back to the 19th century for napping the wool, and a wool-washing plant where this noble material is washed using natural, environmentally friendly methods. In order to keep its products in step with the development of comfort needs, the company designs new models of mattress: the two-sided mattress (hard or soft) to be turned over according to the season, and traditional wool mattresses reinforced with a layer of latex mousse.
