La Forge de Laguiole is an all-in-one factory that makes the parts that are used for the knives it sells.

It was in Laguiole in the early 19th century that the famous Laguiole knife was born. The company Forge de Laguiole was founded to bring the Laguiole knife back to life in its native land. It was awarded the "Living Heritage Company" label in 2007 by the French ministry for the Economy, Industry and Labour. The knives are made in Laguiole, where the blades are forged at over 1000°C). In 2008, the company won the Janus de l’Industrie 2008 prize awarded by the French Design Institute.

Some well-known designers have designed for the knife manufacturer: Philippe Starck, Ora Ïto, Andrée Putman, Hermès, and Sonia Rykiel. Great chefs like Michel Bras and Anne-Sophie Pic use these knives. In 2009, the knife maker was awarded the "Ethics and governance" prize. La Forge de Laguiole is an all-in-one factory that makes the parts that are used for the knives it sells.

Each knife takes several hours, or even several days to make. A number of steps are required. Each model is assembled, adjusted and shaped by hand. It is the product of knife-makers with admirable know-how. When necessary, they become goldsmiths or jewellers when it comes to sculpting, polishing, tempering, etching, stamping or riveting. All of these practises are constantly reproduced to create the Laguiole knife.
