Coustillères comes from a long line of family-owned hatmaking factories established in  Septfonds, the cradle of the straw hat, since the 18th century.

Founded in 1920 by Marius Coustillères, who was succeeded in 1948 by Louis Coustillères, and from 1981 headed by Jean-Claude Coustilleres, the present chairman and managing director.Coustillères makes straw hats, felt hats, fabric hats and caps. Using both old equipment such as foot and pneumatic presses, aluminium moulds and special equipment such as the vats used to dye the straw, the company carries on the traditional hatmaking processes. Thus the heat stretching, sewing the straw braid and dyeing are all done by hand. Coustillères is also one of the rare hatters that dye the straw themselves. The company undertakes a certain amount of special work for haute couture houses. It also makes a whole range of regional, historical and folk hats. It produces two collections a year which are sold via a sales network and by catalogue to a specialist clientele both throughout France and abroad.
