La Canonnerie Stéphanoise

Production of hunting weapons
39 rue Basse des Rives
42000 Saint-Etienne
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Sale to private individuals and professionals
Originally founded in 1970, La Canonnerie Stéphanoise is specialised in making and repairing hunting and shooting weapons. It is located in Saint-Etienne, the historical basin for weapons’ manufacturing, but also for the materials required to make them.
The weapons are tailor-made to order, adjusted to the customer's requirements and preferences. Each model is unique, numbered, personalised and entirely hand-made (barrel, mechanism, buttstock, etchings, etc.). For some calibres, it is possible to have a numbered barrel, in steel from Saint-Etienne, from the old foundries.

Each of the manufacturing take place internally; its everyday operations are barrel trimming, refurbishing barrel dents, boring, lapping and rectification of barrels, replacing barrels, etc.

The steps, the skills and the knowledge to perform this type of operation are considered to be rare and complex. All manufacturing steps require a high technical level and the work is inspected visually, following ancestral techniques passed down from artisan to artisan. The weapons are tested on a test bench and come with a certificate.

Customers are both individuals and professionals (Verney-Carron, Chapuis, Rivolier and the large majority of French gunsmiths). The company exports to Belgium and Switzerland in particular.
