Sale to private individuals and professionals

The workshop is the oldest instrument-maker in Marseille: it was founded in 1877 by Barbet & Granier.

The current director, Charles-Luc Hommel, took over the company in 1981. It is specialised in restoring and tuning string quartet instruments, violins, violas and cellos. With the arrival of Camille, who has 10 years’ experience in the profession, the string quartet instrument-making activity is sure to take off.

The company provides excellent services in restoration, evaluation, assembly, tuning and manufacturing. Further, the workshop has developed specific know-how in preparing and applying varnish: the different varnishes are made following ancient methods, using oil and natural pigments. The workshop works to order.
